A Community That Cares: Nationview Public School Puts Kindness and Caring First

Nationview Public School is more than just a place of learning. It’s a community that cares deeply about the well-being of its students and their families. At Nationview, the focus is not just on academic achievement but on nurturing the whole child. This means creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every student feels valued, heard, and encouraged to reach their full potential. Whether it's creating a fundraiser to support everyone in the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) community or a student in their school, the Nationview community goes above and beyond.
In December, the school held a winter clothing exchange and in February, they organized The Best Seat in the House fundraiser, both of which were to raise money for the UCDSB Champions for Kids Foundation (C4K). C4K helps UCDSB students take part in sporting activities, music lessons or other opportunities in our communities so they can thrive beyond our school walls.
In their Best Seat in the House initiative, all students were entered in the draw but also had the opportunity to purchase tickets for additional chances to win a prime seat on a comfy couch, a juice box, and bag of popcorn during a recent Character Assembly. These efforts resulted in $428.30 raised for the Foundation.
The school community also rallied around classmate and school friend to all, Ben Brown. Ben is a Kindergarten student with cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus. Due to his health conditions, Ben has had more than 11 brain surgeries. Despite the challenges he faces, Ben is high-spirited and continues to persevere.
To support Ben and his family and aid in offsetting the costs of his ongoing medical needs, a charitable group called Ben’s Lucky Turtle Army was created. Wanting to help the Lucky Turtle Army, teachers and classmates hosted a Valentine’s fundraiser with candy-grams, and donated all the proceeds raised from the school's canteen during this year’s Winter Carnival to the group. On Tuesday, March 7, the school presented Ben and his father with a cheque for $1,516.
“Thinking of your neighbour and helping those around you are values we hold highly at Nationview. I’m so proud of our staff and students for wanting to organize these fundraisers and being dedicated to making a difference in our school and community,” says Nationview Principal Candi Campbell. “These are examples of how the power of a school community and kindness can positively impact the lives of those around you.”
