UCDSB Settlement Services

    UCDSB Settlement Services has been assisting newcomers to Eastern Ontario region since August 2008. UCDSB Settlement Services is part of the Upper Canada District School Board and operates under the TR Leger School. UCDSB Settlement Services is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, and is dedicated to serving Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees and Live-in-Caregivers with settlement and immigration needs. We are your one-stop centre for information about settlement services, education, employment, health services, transportation, community services, housing and Canadian services.

    Immigrants and Newcomers to Canada are welcome to visit one of our 3 centres in order to:

    • Receive help or find information regarding housing, employment, education, health,          transportation, community, and government services, etc.
    • Receive help with Permanent Resident card renewal or citizenship applications
    • Speak with a qualified Settlement Worker regarding immigration or settlement questions
    • Speak to a Settlement Worker in School
    • Receive language assessments
    • Receive referral services
    • Receive information regarding English as a Second Language (ESL) and Language for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) programs
    • Use the computer/internet/phone/fax
    • Find out about community resources
    • Access information on Canadian citizenship
    • Receive multilingual information for newcomers to Canada
    • Access Canada Connects
    • Informal Language (Conversation Circles)

    Settlement Workers in School (SWIS) Program

    Through the SWIS program, newcomer families can meet with a Settlement Worker in their child’s school and receive any needed settlement services. The SWIS worker is also able to assist in communication between the school staff and the clients. SWIS worker may work with an entire family or with the students directly. Newcomers or school staff may contact the SWIS worker for assistance.

    Language for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Program

    LINC classes are for Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees and Live-in-Caregivers; Asylum Seekers (Refugee Claimants) and Naturalized Canadians seeking English language instruction take ESL classes.
