What we Offer

The STEP Program is a training program funded by the Ministry of Immigration, Labour, Training and Skills Development and works with Employment Ontario


The STEP Program helps adult learners build skills for a better future.  STEP’s free programs prepare learners to successfully transition to employment, apprenticeship, obtain their OSSD or upgrade their skills to attend college or university, and/or improve their digital skills.

Our Services Include:

  • Free individualized training
  • Continuous intake (learners can enroll in STEP classes at any time of the school year)
  • In class and online courses
  • Supportive instructors to guide learners as they work towards their goals

Goal Paths

Learners can set goals and work towards improving their skills in the following areas:

Employment

  • Explore and gain the skills to secure employment.
  • Learn career specific skills to advance in your career or find a new job.

Apprenticeship

  • Receive support to explore Apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Build skills to enter an Apprenticeship program.

Post-Secondary Preparation

  • Build your academic skills to prepare for post-secondary.
  • Research and select the right college or university program.
  • Learn how to apply to college or university.

Secondary School Credit

  • Strengthen the skills you need to complete your Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
  • Prepare for the Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) Assessment, you may be closer than you think to graduation.

Independence

  • Develop skills to help with your everyday literacy needs.
  • Learn to use a computer, fill in forms, email and read memos.
  • Build skills to volunteer in your community.


How Can STEP Help You?

Essential Computer Skill Courses

  • Improve your digital skills to gain employment, help transition to a new job, attend a post-secondary program or be a volunteer in your community. 
  • Build skills to become proficient in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet, email applications and using mobile devices.

Pre-PLAR preparation for TR Leger School

  • Math, Science, History, Geography, and English PLAR preparation.
  • Bridging with TR Leger School of Adult and Continuing Education to offer support and assist learners with the transition to credit courses.

Occupational Courses

  • STEP offers many occupational skill-based courses that include certificates upon completion.
  • These courses cover skills required by employers in selected fields.

  • Daycare Assistant (prepare for ECE College Program)
  • Supply Educational Assistant (prepare for EA college program)
  • Essential Skills for Trade Helpers
  • Food Counter Attendant

  • Landscaping
  • Retail Associate
  • Grocery and Shelf Stocker
  • Retail and Customer Service
